As you know, we adore architectural details at Parvum Opus, and for this sprouting column lamp design, we pay homage to the work of the great Finnish- American architect, Eliel Saarinen. Saarinen's Cranbrook Academy of Art campus in Michigan is widely recognized as a masterpiece of architecture and design and it's been a constant source of inspiration for the work we do. Saarinen's sprouting column, comprising stacked geometric elements, was designed to represent a stalk of wheat, which historically symbolized abundance and prosperity.
 
We've lavished our usual attention on every detail of this lamp's design and function, sourcing fine, solid brass lamp fittings, colorful twisted cords and faceted antique style plugs. The prototype for this lamp body was designed and crafted by Erika Stefanutti, and we've chosen to cast each trapezoidal section in solid plaster for added weight and stability. The sprouting elements rest atop a solid wooden base, with each section meticulously clad in hand-marbled paper. The completed column features English brass bun feet, and we've added a quartet of our own hand-stamped brass hallmarks to the base as a charming finishing touch. 
 
A fine lamp brings personality, warmth and atmosphere to a room, and our sculptural designs will sit pleasingly with everything from antiques to contemporary art. Like every design that comes from the Parvum Opus atelier, our lamp project has been driven by ongoing fascination, experimentation and refinement, and it's a great pleasure to share the realization of our efforts with you now.

Our lamp bases will work with a wide variety of shade styles. To shop for the colorful shades shown in the product images, we gladly recommend Newport Lamp & Shade who carry the beautiful Fermoie linen shades in a variety of colors and sizes. For very special bespoke ikat shades, we recommend Melodi Horne, who has an eye for finding perfect ikat patterns to match our marbled papers.
