Parvum Opus is a studio bindery, providing the unique service of crafting completely customized desk furnishings and books. We're always happy to answer your questions about the work we do, and we hope the answers found on this page provide a good start. You are of course invited to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
How are Parvum Opus desk furnishings made?
It all starts with pencils and rulers: here at the bindery, we design and make everything by hand, one piece at a time, from scratch. Our methods are completely different from other paper goods suppliers who sell factory-made boxes, etc., covered in decorative paper. Let's consider an archival gift box, for example: work begins with hand-cut book boards (these are the same boards used in hardcover books), glued together with acid-free adhesive to form the box and lid. The next step is to jacket the exterior, interior and the lid with fine papers or book cloth, thus creating a completely bespoke, archival, heirloom piece. From hand-sewn books to picture frames, to desk sets, each item is completely designed and crafted in-house. When you shop with us, you are working directly with the craftspeople/fabricators who make your project especially for you.
Does Parvum Opus offer wholesale pricing?
We cheerfully collaborate with interior designers, architects and shops on items or capsule collections made exclusively for them, with quantity discounts available. We know that in design, no matter the scale of the project, attention to the small details makes all the difference. If you have a special project in mind that you haven't been able to source, we'd love work with you to bring it to fruition.
How long does it take to have a project made?
Generally, our production time for individual projects ranges from two to four weeks, depending on the bindery schedule. If you have an urgent request, we will of course make every effort to accommodate your agenda. Please note that during the holiday season, production times may be longer. Shipping time via USPS Insured Priority Mail within the continental US is generally between 2-3 days.
We also invite you to visit our Ready to Ship section at The Parvum Opus Shop to see an ever-changing selection of pieces which are available for immediate delivery with no production time at all.
Can I request custom shapes and sizes for boxes, picture frames, etc.?
We cheerfully accept requests for pieces in custom configurations. There are, of course, limitations based on the size of our raw materials and the equipment we use in the bindery, but we've been able to accommodate nearly all of the special projects proposed by our clientele.
Can I select a custom paper, and if so, what does it cost?
Absolutely, yes! We very often source papers for our clients' special projects. Generally, the process begins with the selection of a paper through one of our suggested suppliers (links are available at the bottom of our Paper Palette Page). We then order sheets of the paper appropriate to the scope of the project and have them sent to the bindery. The additional fee for a project involving a custom paper is simply the total cost of the necessary sheets plus shipping to the bindery, usually $13-15, and adds one to two weeks to our normal production time.
What happens if the online shipping calculator overestimates my shipping fees?
We always refund shipping overages as they occur. Unfortunately, because of the wide variation in the scale of the pieces we produce, and the many combinations of pieces our clients order, the online shipping calculators available to us are less than perfect. If you prefer, you can provide us with your order details and shipping address via email, and we will happily generate a custom invoice for you via PayPal (which accepts a wide range of credit cards), with exact shipping fees.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes we do. Our shop is set up for shipping to the US, Canada, the UK and several other European countries, but if you don't see your own listed, please contact us and we'll cheerfully provide a shipping quote for you.
